about

How do we get our thrills!.....From an adolescent plunge into a cool lake to hammering the slots after the senior citizen bus ride, we’re all looking to satisfy the aching desire to “feel” something. Philly based alt-rockers Super Bonanza voice that “aching desire” in their debut EP “Burn it My Way.”
Led by two-string bassist and vocalist Joe Oxman, Super Bonanza explores depths of desire, yearning and regret with a sound that exudes the desperate vocal pleadings of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and the instrumental drive of Yo La Tengo.
With Doug Dubrosky on baritone saxophone, Tony Flagiello on drums and Dave Oxman on piano and organ, Super Bonanza combines influences ranging from Joy Division, X and The Cure, to Morphine, Yo La Tengo and the Smithereens.
Aching Desire opens the EP with raw two-chord yearnings of unrequited desire and lust followed by Demon from the Past and its sonic melodic acquiescence of emotional stalemates. The title track, Burn it My Way, fulfills every rockers fantasy to burn every bridge to the ground while About You reveals the guilt and narcissism of ending a doomed affair like a sequel to Joy Division’s “Love will tear us apart.” With My Oh My, the EP catapults right back into another two-chord avalanche of voyeuristic pleasure, as you’re staring at the best looking person in the bar, then ends with Sad Taste, a lounge-lizard ode to the “under the El” sidewalk zombie.
